9 String Guitars take the 7 String and 8 String design to the next level, extending their range even further usually with the addition of a C# string below the F#.

With their extra long scale length and jumbo frets, 9 string guitars are perfect for chunky low-end riffs and chords, and for intricately blistering metal solos spanning the entire fretboard.

As with most extended range guitars, Ibanez were the first major company to successfully design and mass produce them, and a Schecter 9 String was used by musician and composer Mick Gordon on the soundtrack for the video game Doom.
