The Twisted Electrons AY3 Sound Generator is a highly versatile vintage-style sound generator designed and developed by General Instrument toward the end of the 1970s. The chip found in the AY-3 is the 8912 chip which was developed and used in some of the greatest arcade games and video consoles ever made. The AY-3-8912 was the voice behind the Amstrad CPC, Intellivision, Atari ST, MSX, Vectrex, ZX Spectrum 128K and many more classic Arcade Games from the 1980s. The result is an 8-bit, chiptune-style tone that can be manipulated and sculpted to your desire. The two-oscillators are both detonable and can switched or arpeggiated. The spread knob allows you to increase the OSC 2 pitch up to an octave above OSC1 for creating chords and adding extra depth with your tones.
The compact Euro-style rack module will easily integrate into your existing rack configuration thanks to the robust all-metal design with a black brushed finish. The module includes three clocking modes: Normal, Helium and Deep. These three clocking modes allow you to push the range of frequencies and sound to the maximum for optimal versatility. The tune knob gives you the ability to tune both oscillators within 1 octave range and the two Arp and Gate modes allows you to create rhythmic melodies and patterns on the fly.
