Fender's celebrated history is deeply intertwined with the evolution of rock 'n' roll, and the Vintera series is an homage to this illustrious past. The name "Vintera" is a portmanteau of "vintage" and "era", clearly signifying Fender's intent to recapture the essence of their iconic instruments from the '50s, '60s, and '70s.
The Vintera series was launched in 2019, replacing the American Vintage and Classic series. Fender recognised a growing demand amongst musicians for vintage-inspired guitars with modern playability. The company also acknowledged the considerable market for their older models, but these classic guitars often came with a hefty price tag due to their rarity and vintage value.
With the Vintera series, Fender sought to bridge this gap by offering contemporary players a viable and more affordable alternative. These instruments are not just replicas, but are reimagined and redesigned models with the soul of a vintage Fender. They offer a perfect blend of old-school aesthetics and iconic sounds with the comfort and reliability of a modern-day guitar.
With the Vintera II series, Fender have revamped their line-up with upgraded appointments and a more faithful design. All Vintera II instruments have swapped pau ferro fretboards for slab rosewood, feature a wider selection of colours, satin finishes upped to gloss, and neck profiles accurate to each era the guitars are recreating. On top of that, the guitars are loaded with Vintage Tall frets to compensate for the classic 7.25" radius, allowing for expansive string bends without fretting out!
Therefore, the Vintera series represents Fender's commitment to its own heritage, whilst addressing the needs of today's generation of musicians. It's a testament to Fender's enduring legacy and its vision to continually innovate without losing sight of its past.
The difference between the Fender Vintera I and Vintera II series are the components, finishes, available colors, and new models. Vintera II guitars now have rosewood fretboards, vintage tall frets and additional models to capture the spirit of the classic favorites.
The Fender Vintera series are widely considered to be great guitars for players wanting vintage aesthetics and tones. The Vintera series provides an affordable way to get the classic Fender designs that are still extremely popular today, but with modern construction, reliability, and playability.
Fender Vintera guitars are generally considered to be a more premium series than the Fender Player line. However, their focus on classic and retro designs may put off players who prefer the modern styles, sounds, and playability that the Player series offers.
