The DSP filter switches allow you to get the best possible sound regardless of what position the monitors are calibrated in.
Placing the monitors on a desk? There's a switch for that. Change the soft filter setting to desk and allow the process to take place. The speaker will then compensate for the first reflection caused by the desk surface. If you want to put the speakers into a hole into the wall, use another setting to mitigate the increased bass response.
