Key Features
The Conn 88HCL Trombone, 9" Bell is an orchestral tenor trombone, built to a professional standard. Perfect for advanced students or professional musicians, this premium instrument can deliver a wide palette of tonal colours all the way through the dynamic range. With a wide bore size and rose brass bell providing excellent projection, and the perfectly smooth chrome-plated inner slides giving effortless action and playability, the 88HCL is perfectly suited for either blending into an orchestra or cutting through with complex solo passages.
The rotary F attachment allows for flexibility in the way you play, offering alternative slide positions, and extending the range of the instrument downwards. This open-wrap construction offers excellent clarity and even resistance, with an open feel. Featuring a patented 'CL2000' valve, the resistance found in a traditional rotor valve has been enormously reduced. A gleaming, clear-lacquered finish adds a subtle warmth to the overall sound of the 88HCL, and gives it a timeless, classic look.

The story of the C.G. Conn trombone starts in 1875, when Colonel Charles Gerard Conn founded his instrument manufacturing company in the small town of Elkhart, Indiana. Conn rapidly made a name for himself with his innovative brass designs, and within a short amount of time his company was the largest producer of trombones in the United States. Conn trombones are known for their unique tonal colour and stability at fortissimo dynamics - making them among the most widely used professional symphonic trombones in the world.
This 88HCL comes with a large-diameter rose brass bell. Rose brass creates a warmer, darker sound profile than the more commonly used yellow brass, making it the material of choice for those seeking a more complex tone. The wide-rimmed construction of this bell allows for a larger dynamic range, and incredible, symphonic levels of projection.
An open wrap F attachment is utilised in the 88HCL. This single, large loop helps to decrease air resistance by reducing the number of sharp angles in the tubing. The result is much less variation in blowing resistance when the loop is engaged, which significantly improves the playability of the instrument.
To ensure an incredibly smooth slide action and effortless playability, the inner slide tubing is made from chrome-plated nickel silver. This premium material glides freely, allowing rapid movement - and also adds brilliance to the timbre.
The open wrap F attachment features a patented 'CL200' valve, designed in collaboration with the famous trombonist Christian Lindberg. This valve is incredibly smooth to engage, and removes a lot of the resistance found in traditional axial rotary systems. It activates with the shortest throw of any commercially available rotor system, which reduces air build-up during engagement - eliminating the 'pop' which occurs with other rotors.
The Conn 88HCL tenor trombone comes included with a C.G. Conn 5G mouthpiece and a 7521C wood shell case. The mouthpiece provides a crisp, clean tone, with a quick response and effortless access to the higher registers. Your trombone will be kept safe from bangs and scrapes with the sturdy yet lightweight construction of the 7521C case, perfect for the musician on the move.
